HISTORY
Sarti is situated on the Eastern shores of Sithonia. It was named after the Ancient city of Sarti, probably situated in the same area. The name "SARTI" can be found in the writings of Herodotus. It was visited by Xerxes' expeditionary forces. Ancient Sarti was a member of the Athenian Alliance.

Significant ruins of the ancient city can be found above the gulf of Sykia. It is not known when or why the city was destroyed. During the 14th century, there are reports of a village in the area called "Sarti", belonging to the Monastery of Xenofontos. After 1922 it was inhabited by refugees from Asia Minor.
Today Sarti is a holiday resort that combines the beauty of mountain and sea, crystal clear waters, white sandy beaches and secluded coves that enchant the visitor, leaving him with unforgettable memories. The area is ideal for all kinds of watersports.
The locals are very hospitable.There are numerous hotels and rooms to let for a comfortable and a pleasant stay and various camping grounds and caravan parks for nature lovers. The many restaurants and fish taverns, offer a wide range of traditional dishes and fresh fish.
Relax enjoying your coffee or ice-cream in one of the quiet cafes or get into the rhythm of the intense night-life. You can take a short afternoon walk to the Monastery of Xenofontos, which is located 500 m from the village. The church was built in 1867 and the rest or the buildings in 1900. Excursions set out daily to Mt Athos.

BEACH
Sarti has had the Blue Flag for several years that means clean and sandy beach everywhere, families, younsters and elders can enjoy the beaty of it during the beach activities.
The coast of Sarti Beach is becoming deeper more slowly, this is the best place for children, but all along you will find chance for swimming and watersports.

FOOD AND DRINKS
Dining in Greece is a common activity, the same as with the family or with friends. Dining together is always a celebration – although not an especial event. The reason of this that a lunch or a dinner in a restaurant is still considered a reasonable priced delight among Greek people.
The restaurants at the popular holiday resorts are located next to each other where tourists have the chance to try the most delicious specialities of Greek cuisine. Tavernas in small villages are run by families that ensures our meal is prepared by old and well-known recipes. Fishes and other sea-food are little more expensive, it is recommended to eat at those places where we can choose the ones we like from the fridge.
Fresh-fried specialities, for examlpe souvlaki, gyros or kalamari are easy to prepare and there is no difference between the tavernas, but if we want to try other meals, for example musaka, we should ask recommendation from someone who have tried before, because these meals are usually prepared in a different ways in several tavernas.
Dining routine is quite different from the European, lunch is usually at 14-15.00 pm, and dinner is never held before 21.00 pm. If it is possible, try one of these late dinners to feel the real Greek atmosphere.

In Sarti several tavernas and restaurants are open during all day where the great variety of Greek cuisine is served with the attendance of the sound of bouzuki. Don’t miss the specialities, like musaka, kalamari, souvlaki, bifteki, gyros, souzukaki, tyiropita, horiatiki (Greek salad), and the delicious sea-food.

There is no dinner without drink, so during your stay you must taste the special wines, such as Retsina, Mavrodaphni or the wines of Porto Carras, the national beer, Mythos and for appetizer everybody should taste once the famous Metaxa or Ouzo, and Tsipouro as well. In the cafeterias you will find Frape, the Greek ice-coffee, there is no question about it how this tasty drink can cool you down during the hot days.

DOCTOR
The Sithon Medical Surgery is operated for your service next to our Travel Agency. During Sarti holiday visitors are in a good hand, our surgery is open all day, from Monday to Sunday and has a 24 hours emergency duty. Most of the „travellers’ insurances” are accepted , and for futher hospital treatment visitors from EU have to dispose with the „European Insurance Card”. The hospitals are located in Agios Nikolaos and in Poligyros, in case of serious emergency we provide taxi service to the hospitals.

DIVING
